One killed, 30 travellers abducted along Kaduna-Zaria highway

One traveller was killed and over 30 travellers were abducted along Kaduna-Zaria road by bandits who blocked the highway on Monday night.

Tribune Online gathered that the bandits blocked the road around Mawai village just about a few kilometres away from the ancient city of Zaria.

It would be recalled, in recent times the Kaduna-Zaria is gradually becoming a ‘death trap’ for motorists plying the road.

It was gathered that bandits had on a few occasions kidnapped dozens of travellers including a top Northern traditional ruler.

A brother of Alhaji Sani Dogara who was killed told Tribune Online that the deceased left Zaria to Kaduna around 8 pm when he was directly faced with the hoodlums where he was hit by a bullet.

It was gathered that the operation which lasted for three hours, led to the abduction of over 30 travellers by the bandits.

An eyewitness said: “There was a waiting car stationed by the bandits where those abducted were forcefully taken to an unknown destination.”

Another source who craved for anonymity, revealed, “We were by the roadside when we noticed vehicles making abrupt U-turns, while other vehicles ran into the bush.

“We also saw several travellers alighting from their vehicles and running barefoot into the nearby bush for their safety,” the source declared.

As at the time of filing the report, the Kaduna State Police Command and the state government are yet to issue a statement on the incident.
