A lifeless body of an adult male was recovered at 11:30 pm on Thursday as a Toyota Jeep with registration number BDG732FD rammed into a truck from behind at 7 & 8 Bus Stop inward Airport Road in Lagos State.
Information gathered showed that the lifeless body was the driver of the Toyota jeep. The body has been recovered and handed over to his family.
According to the situation report by the Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the men of the agency have recovered the dead driver and wrecked Jeep.
He stated that further investigation revealed that the accident was due to reckless driving.
According to him, the accident which occurred close to midnight yesterday 20th August 2021 elicited the distress call received by LASEMA at about 11:50 p.m via its 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency Response Lines.
This, he explained led to the overnight operation by the LASEMA Response Team, adding that the operation terminated at about 01:15 a.m on Friday.
Though the seriously injured passenger in the Jeep had been rescued before the arrival of the agency’s response team at the scene, thorough professionalism ensured family members of the deceased was quickly contacted, enabling prompt recovery and evacuation of the corpse which was duly handed over to the family.
On the situation report, Oke-Osanyintolu said: “On getting to the scene, the LRT discovered that a Toyota Jeep BDG732FD had an accident with a truck by running into it from behind.
“Further investigation revealed that the accident was due to reckless driving.
“Unfortunately, the driver of the Toyota Jeep lost his life, while the passenger sustained serious injuries and had been taken to the hospital before the arrival of the LRT.
“The LRT Bravo team deployed the Agency’s light tow truck to manage the situation.
“The victim has been bagged and handed over to the family, while the vehicle has been recovered from the road to a layby with the agency’s light tow truck.
“Operations concluded. LRT heading back to base.”
