One dead, others injured in Kaduna tanker explosion

A tanker explosion killed one person on Wednesday, while several others sustained injuries at Rigachikun in Igabi local government area of Kaduna State.

Director of Kaduna State Fire Service, Mr. Paul Aboi confirmed the fire incident in an interview with newsmen.

Narrating how the incident happened, Aboi disclosed that the tanker lost control while trying to avoid a head-on collision with a golf Volkswagen saloon car.

“We were there in response time. The situation was bad because one person lost his life while several others were hospitalised.

“It was clearly an accident caused by a motorcyclist and a golf car who were driving against the traffic.

“So, when the tanker driver sighted them, he tried to avoid a head-on collision and while meandering, he ran on the motorcyclist.

“It was in that process that the tanker fell and burst into flames because it was loaded with a substance suspected to be petrol.

“This is the third tanker experience in Kaduna town within a week. A tanker burst into flames at Kamoh fuel station, Rigasa while the content was being offloaded into the underground tanker around 3 p.m. last Wednesday though no life was lost.

“Another one fell around the Flamingo area of Nnamdi Azikiwe bypass while trying to navigate the deplorable road. Luckily, it did not result in a fire incident.”
