Ondo pastor docked over alleged rape of pregnant lady

A Prophet in the Celestial Church of Christ ( CCC) in Akure, Ondo State capital, Prophet Gbenga Filani, was, on Tuesday, arraigned before a Magistrate Court, for allegedly having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 19-year-old pregnant girl identified as Bukola Ojo.

The CCC Prophet was also alleged to have unlawfully and indecently assaulted Bukola by touching her private part against her will, under the pretence of spiritual healing.

The two-count charges preferred against him were not read to him, as the courtroom was filled to the brim with members of his church.

The Court, however, refused to grant the application filed by the Prosecution, Inspector Akintimehin Nelson to remand the accused who prayed for his remand at a Correctional centre.

Inspector Nelson argued that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case and due to the gravity of the offence should be remanded in prison custody.

But the defence Counsel led by Akinrata Adelanke argued that there was not enough evidence to prove the suspect committed the crime.

He, however, prayed the court to grant Filani bail and promised that he would ensure the defendant stand-in for trial.

Presiding Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, granted the suspect bail to the sum of N500,000 and two sureties in like sum while the case was adjourned to January 14, 2022, for review.

The pregnant lady reported at the police station that she was raped by the Pastor when she went for deliverance at the church.

Narrating her ordeal, the victim said the popular pastor used ‘anointing’ oil to rub her private part before he dipped his manhood in her when she was being prayed for in the church premises.

She said: “In the morning, I went to the hospital to register. We usually have programme every Wednesday. On that faithful day, I went to Church but unfortunately, they have ended the service.

“He collected the list they gave me from the hospital. He said the items on the list given to me were too much, he later said I should go and do the photocopy which I did. After I have done it, he said I should take it to the altar, while sitting down, he started pressing my stomach, he asked me how many month is my pregnancy? I said it is five months.

“He said that he is going to do some spiritual work me for before my delivery. He stood up later and entered a room he later called me to enter and I did. He asked me to sleep which I did, he also said I should remove my clothes, and I did it saying I should also open my legs.

“He dipped his middle finger with oil on my private part. He said my baby is vertical instead of being horizontal. He said he would put oil in my private part and would help me insert it with his private part so that the oil would get into the baby.

“He not robbed oil in his private part and asked me to open my legs. He now have sex with me. He said he did not supposed to do it but helped me because my husband is not around.

“It was later after he had sex with me that I came into my right senses. He said I should swear that I should not tell anyone including my mother. He said I will die if I tell anybody.”
