Men of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun have arrested a 23-year-old suspected kidnapper, Samuel Lucky Akpan, over the abduction of a four-year-old boy in Akure, the state capital.
Akpan confessed planning to sell off the boy at the sum of N200,000 to some middlemen before he was arrested by the Amotekun officials.
While confessing to the crime, Akpan who was a close friend of the boy’s family said he was able to lure the young boy out of the house because of his closeness to the family.
According to him, the young boy was hypnotized by him, using some charms and placing some leaves on his forehead before the security men apprehended him.
He said, “The boy always come to play with me from his mother’s shop and I am very close to the family. I lured him out of the shop and I was already on my way to sell the boy for the sum of N200,000 when I was arrested by some group of people.
”The man said, I wanted to sell the boy to a man. He was already waiting for me and I have assured him that I will soon be with him, as I placed a certain kind of leave on the boy’s head.
“If somebody places that leave together with some incantations on anyone, the person will not be able to say anything again. But I have not gone far from the shop of the boy’s mother when I was nabbed by men of the Amotekun Corps.”
Speaking on the arrest, the state Commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, said the suspect was arrested by the officials of Amotekun following intelligence gathering.
He explained that the suspect was apprehended for allegedly kidnapping a four-year-old boy at the Alagbaka area of Akure with the intent of selling him for N200,000.
He, however, disclosed that 18 other suspected criminals were apprehended for various offences by the officials of the security outfit.
Adeleye expressed the command determination to rid the state off criminals. “We also have someone who kidnapped a four-year-old boy. But with the help of the people around, we are able to rescue the boy and apprehend him.
Adeleye said a suspected cultist was arrested following the aftermath of a clash with some persons in his community, threatening to shoot them with a pistol he publicly displayed during the fight.
“Investigations revealed that the 27-year-old, Sola Ogunyemi, was a robbery suspect and cultist, and was just released from prison some six months ago.
“An English revolver pistol which he claimed belonged to the leader of ‘Eiye Confraternity was recovered from him.”
Other suspects apprehended by the command for internet fraud include; nine middle-aged young men whose ages range between 18 to 30 years.
They include; Adegboro Opeyemi, Taopheek Yusuf, Micheal Olawole, Sadiku Kehinde, Sule Kabiru, Adetula Ayodeji, Olatokunbo Taiwo, Suleman and Ayuba Imoleayo.
“Over the last two months, we have been on the field and so many criminals have been apprehended.
“As you can see, their crimes range from kidnapping to armed robbery, housebreaking, rape and even Internet fraud.
“We have a number of criminals that are here who are going through different stages of interrogation and awaiting prosecution,” he said.
The Commander also disclosed that suspects whose investigations had been concluded would be handed over to the police and will be charged to court immediately.
