On politics and football

Published by

People seldom believe me when I say I’m not a football fan. The only time I used to watch football by design was when it involved the Super Eagles but gone are the days. For me really, it’s like football, like politics.

Last month or so, it was all over the news that CR7 had returned to his former FC, Man United and it was adjudged a good move going by popular public comments but it seems that the news everywhere now is that ‘e get as e be’ for a VIP (very important politician) to return to a party in which he was once a chieftain. Does it matter if most of our top politicians are crossing from party A to party B and re-defecting from party B to party A? It’s part of our country’s peculiar mess.

Defection and reverse defection are a part of Nigeria’s peculiar democratisation. Indeed, politics is a game of number. Yet, just like football, politics is a game. Please, count my interest out of partisan politics. Nothing interests me in Nigerian brand of politics. And I wish we didn’t politicise governance. Governance, I mean good governance is where my interest lies. May God bless Nigeria and teach our political leaders the right things to do and how to do things right.
