On EFCC chairman’s commitment to corruption fight

Published by

THE newly appointed chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa has said his mind publicly to those who might want him to do anything contrary to his conscience or against the rule of law, explaining that he will rather resign from his position than engage in this.

Bawa is a young man and he needs to protect his reputation because all eyes are on him, even the international community is watching. He needs to consult wide even beyond the shores of Nigeria to learn the intricacies of dealing with corrupt politicians in Nigeria. I don’t want Bawa to resign his appointment; he is the first EFCC chairman in Nigeria to threaten to resign his appointment if anybody asks him to act against his conscience.

We the Nigerian youths are proud of him for making such statement and we want him to stand by his words. It is a fact that powerful people in the society and politicians will try to interfere and swing things in their favour but Bawa should not bow to pressure and act against his will.

He should not hesitate to speak his mind; he should follow the rule of law. We need to sanitise this country because the rate at which Nigerians are suffering is alarming; many Nigerians are wallowing in abject poverty due to corruption.
