Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta State
GOV Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta on Tuesday urged the people of the state to undergo regular health check in order to prevent sudden death.
Okowa spoke in Ozoro, Delta, at the commencement of the second phase of the eye screening programme organised by the Chairman, Isoko North Local Government, in partnership with the private sector.
Okowa, who lauded the chairman for being proactive, said that partnering the private sector was the way to go in delivering government projects.
He charged the people to avail themselves of the opportunities available in the primary healthcare centres to check their health.
The governor also challenged Delta sons and daughters to support development programmes at the local government, considering funding constraints.
Okowa advised other local governments in the state to emulate Isoko North council.
“I wish to call on well-meaning sons and daughters to contribute their quota to develop the state.
“I believe with the partnership of those who are close to the council, we can do a lot more for our people.
“This is a wake up call that there is need for us to check our health, not only our eyes, but every other part of our body.”
The governor gave an assurance that the state contributory healthcare scheme was on course and would accommodate everybody in the state.
Earlier, Mr Emmanuel Egbabor, the Chairman of council, thanked the governor for the various projects sited in the area.
According to Egbabor, more than 1,000 people received attention during the first phase of the exercise.
He said that 750 were given eyeglasses while others had surgery to improve their sight.
The chairman also said that the council was partnering the private sector to build a 50-unit housing estate for the workers in the area.
He said that the council had also built a mechanic village in the area, thereby generating revenue for the local government.
The governor later inaugurated road projects in both Isoko North and South local government areas, to commemorate his second anniversary.
