Ogun traditional ruler writes Buhari, warns against clamp down on secessionists agitators

The Eselu of Eselu Kingdom in Yewa North Area of Ogun State, Oba Ebenezer Akinyemi, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari, to dialogue with those agitating for secession rather than clamping down on them.

The traditional ruler in an open letter to Mr President made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, on Sunday, said that dialogue with all sections of the country would bring all agitations to an end.

He explained that more of Nnamdi Kanu would be prevented from springing up from different parts of the country if the dialogue is not adopted.

He stated: “Kanu has been rearrested to face the charge against him, but dialogue with all sections in the country will help to resolve the agitation for secession.

He appealed to President Buhari to consider handing over office to a candidate from the South-East.

The traditional ruler argued that if all sections of Nigeria could pave way for the South-East in 2023 in producing the next nation’s president, the security challenges rocking the nation from the region would disappear in the twinkle of an eye.

“As a stakeholder and patriotic citizen of this country, I want to state without equivocation that the entire security challenge bedevilling this country from the South-East will disappear within a twinkling of an eye if only all sections of this great country can come together to pave way for the emergence of a Nigerian President from of Igbo extraction in 2023,” he added.

The traditional ruler who lamented the security situation in the country reminded Buhari of the Biafran war of 1967 to 1970, appealing to him not to allow the event to repeat itself in Nigeria.

He warned the President against treating the Igbo extraction in a way that would trigger another civil war, stressing that considering the southeasterners would enable them to have a sense of belonging in Nigeria.

“The Igbo pose talents in the areas of big and small business even across the Nigerian borders. They contribute heavily to the economy of Nigeria, hence they should also be given what is due for them,” the traditional ruler said.
