Of politicians and their motives

What is happening in Nigeria politics today is an absurd; it does not conform to the tenets of democratic governance. Politics should be a means of running a government that will be beneficial to the general public. Ideally, nobody raises any objection to the intention of any person to become a politician. But the motive behind that intention must be right. When the motive is not right, the masses will definitely suffer!

As a good politician, your initial motive provides a template for you to govern in a progressive manner when you get to power. Apparently, this is not the case in Nigeria where politicians, particularly in recent times, have been defecting from one political party to another, as if moving from a bedroom to the living room.

Nigerian politicians should be focus-oriented. They should not be cross-carpeting from one party to another to propagate their selfish ambition. The political party that you belong to does not matter: what actually matters are your good ideas that will alleviate the suffering of the masses.

Abraham Maslow, an American clinical psychologist, spoke extensively on hierarchy of needs. The fact remains that he had good motive that actually propelled him to propound a theory that has proven to be beneficial to workers and the general public in terms of physiological safety and social needs.

Our politicians should also emulate Maslow, rather than running after the acquisition of wealth and other mundane things.
