O to ge

Published by

For non-Yoruba readers, above simply translates “enough is enough”. It is a warning cliche and there is a déjà vu sense to it that may make it sound empty, especially when the redness in the eyeballs of the one making it is as a result of a thorough spanking from a tougher, tactful and much more resourceful opponent.

But the o to ge battle cries from Kwara State do not appear empty, especially after Oloye junior was blackened in the eye at the just-concluded bye-election. Those shouting ‘enough is enough’ with ile l’oke’s dominance of the state political space really mean every kind of business, including the monkey type; only that Bukola too, is a trader and not the pettykind.

A variation is also spreading in Lagos. This archetype is code-named “freedom.” It is fashioned as a two-edged sword; one to purge Bourdillion of perceived anti-Eko idiosyncrasy and the other, to harangue its famous landlord to influence-retirement. Isale-Eko is roiling over the alleged moves by Bourdillion to completely strip the real Omo-Ilu of all relevance. They are claiming that a win for Bourdillion boys next year would mean Ogun first position, Ogun second position et al. The danger in the Lagos ‘o to ge,’ is the rest rising against the considered best, who may turn minority, if it comes to We vs Them. A case of “Eko-for-show, the rest-for-real?”

A clearly emotive judge also applied the ‘o to ge’ whip on a professor who got himself into trouble trying to shave his leg outside with his student. [Richard] Akindele is a jailbird and everything points at a deserving end to the OAU sex-for-mark saga. But I hold no moral gavel on him. Many condemning him today got away with more heinous sex crimes, but he was the caught-in-the-act guy. May The Lord be merciful to him and us all, including the victim(s).

The ‘o to ge’ solution proposed by the university is worthy of consideration; reconstructing the front part of lecturers’ offices with see-through glass, for all to see, which is which inside. Desperate measures for desperate situations? Well, modern time says it is the way to go, though there is a feeling something would be prised away with the opening up and it doesn’t have to be the love-nest, because according to the trial judge, the deed is more done at hotels than offices, which can be very close to lecture halls. ‘O to ge’ indeed.

Femi Hamzat’s cross.

What’s this talk about Femi Hamzat, APC governorship running-mate in Lagos, appearing more gubernatorial, than Jide Sanwoolu, his would-be principal, if their ticket succeeded next year? I have heard confirmation even from associates of the one called BOS. They accept there is something about Hamzat that makes him look the governor and BOS, the junior partner. They also envisage “problems” in Alausa, next year. Incidentally, both are, substantially of, similar political resume; commissioners in same administration et al. The good problem Hamzat has, is called charisma. Your personality is just seen fitting into nice stuff. You don’t get to push it. You don’t have it, you don’t have it, period! Incidentally, it is Sanwoolu who is being projected with hundreds of millions of Naira, to fit the bill and in recent time, he’s been trying acting the part. But for some, he’s just not looking the gubernatorial part and it doesn’t necessarily have much to do with the mental, criminal tar. Charisma is like nature’s decor on a man, regardless of physical attributes and visage value. I have heard ladies drool over Segun Arinze. Could it also be why Iara “fell” for Oshio Baba? But I see it more as God’s glory in a man’s life. When that anointing is upon you, everything great, glorious and wonderful, is just your cut size. But it comes with responsibility. If one allows being charismatic drag him beyond the humility boundary, shame is waiting at the next turn. Those who hailed his gait as a bounce, would suddenly see it as puffy, and if care isn’t applied at this point, a heavy thud is imminent. A close associate of Hamzat is ready to testify of his humility. Well, good for him. Now, that he is likely to take orders from a man, generally seen to be of lesser favourability weight, he will have to dig deeper to play his “A” game.

Access Bank again?

First Intercontinental, and now Diamond; two supposed bigger “cash” cows “swallowed” up by Access Bank, which has remained underwhelming in brandship. Maybe, the two supposed swallowed “giants” were actually empty-shell. But at least, there should be a bulge, even if one swallowed a carcass. Despite Albert Wigwe’s Nollywood stuff in the CNN ad, Access Bank is yet a hit in the industry. Many had wondered, why Access, when it “finished up” Intercontinental Bank. Many are also scratching their heads now that the same harried “fellow” is having Diamond for Xmas. Something isn’t just adding up about this “lanky” one, just chopping and cleaning mouth, without at least a contour in its midriff, if the orobos being swallowed, would not make the “eater”, rotund. Genesis Chapter 41, is on my mind, particularly, verse 21.

Osinbajo’s grounded jet

Wee hours of Friday, I saw Pastor Yemi Osinbajo in his presidential jet, which crawled out of the hangar but could not take off. I have a little understanding of the vision but won’t state it here. I’m particularly writing about this because of a message last Sunday wherein a visiting pastor, also of the Redeemed, warned church members in my local parish, against gradually turning our well-heeled co-member (the preacher is a senior pastor and has likely seen stuff) to their god. King Herod Agrippa, was eaten up alive by worms, not because he uttered a word of acceptance to the effulgent praise of the court-jesters who equated him with God, but because he didn’t reject the “worship” when God made it clear only Him should be worshipped. I’m certain the VP is more advanced in God’s Word than whatever I could offer here. May the mercy of the Lord find us all.
