NYCN, CSOs ask Buhari to be courageous on implementation of NDDC audit report’s reccommendations

Published by

THE National Youth Council of Nigeria and some civil society organisations have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to be courageous in ensuring full implementation of recommendations of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) forensic audit report.

They said this would not only lead to the repositioning of the Commission but bring about accelerated development of the region and the entire country in general.

National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), President, Comrade Solomon Adodo, who addressed a news conference on Thursday in Abuja in conjunction with the leaders of five CSOs, commended President Buhari for ensuring that the successful completion of the forensic audit in spite of all odds.

Adodo said: “As the report is ready for presentation to Mr President, we commend him most sincerely and congratulate him very warmly for this epochal achievement against corruption and underdevelopment in the Niger Delta.

“We also extend this commendation to President Buhari’s ministerial foot-soldiers in this titanic battle against corruption, Senator Godswill Akpabio and Mr Abubakar Malami (SAN), Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and the Attorney General & Minister of Justice respectively.

“Indeed, the Attorney General provided all the institutional support to ensure that this report sees the light of the day, while the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs bore the bullets in the field of work to see that the Audit is successfully done.

“It was particularly this duo that ensured that the directive of Mr President was executed to the last letter.”

NYCN President said he was certain that with the submission of the forensic audit report, the era of unprecedented and monumental corruption manifesting in extensive contract frauds, procurement law infractions, non-budgetary and extra-budgetary spending, audit violations, cronyism, fiscal recklessness and flagrant disregard to procedural rules as well as other financial malpractices would be put to a final halt while ushering unprecedented development for the region.

“While congratulating Mr President and his team, we must warn that the battle has just begun in a different dimension so as to stop the implementation of the report.

“This one may eventually be dirtier. So we urge Mr President to remain courageous as usual as Nigerians of goodwill are all with him on this.

“We urge all discerning true patriots to keep faith with the anti-corruption war of the government as it is in the overall interest of the masses and for the forward voyage of our dear nation. – Nigeria,” Adodo said.

The leaders of the CSOs at the joint news conference are Danesi Momoh, Convener, Guardians of Democracy and Development; Stephen Eriba, Executive Director, Independent Public Service Watch; Chief Igwe Ude-Umanta, Convener, Civil Society Advocacy Groups for Accountability and Probity; Joey Abrukwe, Convener, Niger Delta Patriots for Good Governance and Chukwudi Oluoha, Empowerment for Unemployed Youths Initiative.
