NSCDC rescues abandoned day-old child in Kwara

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have rescued a day old baby girl abandoned in a dumpsite at Patigi rural community in Patigi local government area of Kwara State.

In a statement by NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi on Friday, the baby girl was rescued alive in Dokoyirigi compound, Patigi and was in a safe condition at Patigi General Hospital.

Afolabi said that the timely arrival of an operative of the Civil Defence Corps of the Kwara State Command saved the life of the day old baby girl.

“In the early hours of Friday, 06/08/2021, one of our officers at the Patigi Divisional Office, who was on her way to office discovered an unidentified baby girl that was later discovered to be a day old. The baby was left in a stinking dump site located around Dokoyirigi area of the town.”

He disclosed further that the baby, who was already becoming unconscious was later taken to the general hospital in Patigi where she was promptly attended to and her medical condition was stabilized.

Afolabi said that effort was ongoing to track the mother of the girl who perpetrated a wicked act that left a day old baby in such a dehumanized condition, adding that when arrested she would be prosecuted.

He said that a staff of the hospital identified as Tsado Racheal had signified intention to adopt the baby after all the necessary and proper documentation and actions might have been formalized.
