NSCDC boss pledges to correct anomalies in promotion exercise

Published by

THE new commandant-general of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has assured officers and men of the service that all alleged anomalies and imbalances in promotion exercises in the past will be corrected.

Speaking against the backdrop of complaints by staff in Abuja, Audi insisted that his administration would uphold the tenets of meritocracy over and above any ethnic, religious, cultural or emotional affiliations.

He said: “We shall review our methods and system of conducting promotion exercises for personnel and ensure we correct all anomalies and imbalances in order to continue to motivate and strengthen the morale of our productive workforce.

“Absolute consideration for merit shall guide our policy direction on appointments, promotion and deployment as we tilt towards the application of modern security techniques to advance our course of action and enforcement in bringing a remarkable reduction to incidence of crime within the shortest time in the society,” he said.

Audi has recently taken over the affairs of the corps from the acting commandant-general of NSCDC, Mr Hilary Kelechi  Madu, who piloted the affairs of the corps for one month before the appointment of Audi as the substantive commandant-general of NSCDC by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He noted that his appointment was divine and vowed to reposition the corps to a world class organisation while ensuring international best practices.

He said, “My appointment as the commandant-general is coming at a time when the nation is passing through some security challenges. Therefore, so much is expected of us at a time like this.

“We must explore our full potential as a paramilitary agency of government and uphold the core values of NSCDC by displaying professionalism and uncommon passion for the security of lives and

property of Nigerians, including the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure across the length and breadth of the country which are frequently vandalised by unpatriotic elements,” he said.

Audi further pledged to work with the management team to see the best and shortest possible way to boost personnel welfare to compete favourably or surpass known benchmarks for personnel to willingly wear their uniforms with pride.

“I assure you that my leadership will invest heavily in human capital development aimed at developing core competencies, which is a panacea for growth and success of any organisation,” he said.

The outgoing acting commandant-general, Madu, said he had confidence in the capacity of the new CG to manage the organisation effectively.

He noted that the task ahead of him was a difficult one and required support of all officers and men of the corps, adding that the only thing to make him happy would be when everyone is doing his or her job to make his job easy.

Madu told the staff that the huge salaries being paid by the Federal Government must be justified by commitment and dedication to duties at all times.
