North South Power Foundation distributes palliative to IDPs in Munya, Shiroro

The North-South Power Foundation (NSPF) has distributed palliatives to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Munya and Shiroro Local Government Areas of Niger State.

Mr. Hassan Abdullahi, the Consultant on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with NSP, presented the food items on behalf of the company.

In Munya LGA, the relief items were distributed at Dandaudu – Mararaba Junction Primary School to serve IDPs in Sarkin Pawa, Dangunu, and Chibani. For Shiroro LGA, the distribution took place at Gwada, Kuta, and Zumba Central Primary Schools.

Hon. Hassan Abdullahi explained that the palliatives are part of NSP’s CSR efforts to assist victims displaced by armed bandits from the host communities, helping them to celebrate the forthcoming Sallah.

He noted that the Company had earlier donated live cows to IDPs in Kuta and Zumba to help them celebrate the fourth Sallah, like others.

Abdullahi said the items distributed were 200 bags of 25kg rice, 200 bags of 25kg beans, 10 bags of 50kg Garri, 80 cartons of Kings vegetable oil, 80 cartons of Kings palm oil, 20 cartons of Maggi cubes, 20 cartons of tomatoes sachets,10 bags of 50kg dangote salt and 5 bags of 50kg dangote sugar.

He however, called on Federal, state and local governments, the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, other sister security agencies, as well as multi-national organisations to put their heads together to bring a lasting solution to the humanitarian crisis in the affected areas.

Similarly, the Public Relations/CSR Unit of NSP, Dr. Samson Esumeh, said the palliatives distributed is an emergency step taken by the Company to cushion the effects of the increasing population in the IDPs camps due to banditry activities.

He disclosed that the foundation has also sank 36 boreholes, rehabilitated Schools, constructed Public Health Centre as well as payments of surgery operations for more than 100 people from host communities in the State from January 2024 till date.

The Coordinator of IDPs camp in Kuta, Malam Yusuf Kuta who responded on behalf of the IDPs, thanked the foundation for always supporting the victims of banditry activities, with food items and medical care and portable water supply.

Also, the Director Administration in Shiroro, Zakari Umaru, who represented the Chairman, appreciated NSP for the gesture, saying the council alone cannot afford to care for the large number of IDPs without external support.

Some of the victims who spoke to newsmen, recount their ordeals of how the bandits attacked their communities slaughtering adults, youths and male children unchallenged.

They said the armed bandits warned them to vacate their ancestral communities, warning them never to return, the victims called on the government at all levels to come to their aids by deploying security personnel to the affected Communities in parts of the State.
