Normalcy returns to Imo as business, social activities pick up again

Published by

Normalcy has virtually returned to all parts of Owerri the capital of Imo State and its environs with vehicular movements taking greater shape.

This was as the sit-at-home order proclaimed by the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) ended, on Monday, with full compliance by the residents

Businesses as well as, social activities, have also come back, with civil servants, workers, businessmen, traders, commercial bus drivers have all resumed their daily works and businesses in full scale.

The usual buying and selling of goods and services at all major markets, shops, and other minor markets in the city of Owerri have also returned.

Imolites now move about for their normal daily business without intimidation and harassment.

Also in the financial sectors, banks also resumed full services, on Tuesday, while filling stations across the state commenced services without any hitch.

A trader at Relief Market, Mazi Ken Onwuka, told our correspondent in Owerri that they were happy for everything that happened.

He said that what transpired during the sit-at-home would go a long way to sending a positive signal to the authorities that “the people matter in all things.”

IPOB, the group canvassing self-determination for the South-East, proclaimed the sit-at-home to commemorate the 1967 to 1970 civil war in Nigeria otherwise known as the Biafra war.
