No more restriction of movement as Oyo govt suspends last Saturday of the month environmental sanitation

Published by

The Oyo State government has suspended restrictions usually imposed during the hours of environment sanitation held every Thursday and every last Saturday of the month.

The new order is that environmental sanitation is to be done every day, with no form of restriction whether of movement or closure of shops.

The state governor, Seyi Makinde, had earlier given the hint of suspension of the restrictions during the quarterly media chat held in February.

The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources in the state, Mr Idowu Oyeleke, in a statement on Wednesday, said the new order was driven at having a clean and green environment.

Oyeleke admonished all residents to utilise the new order to clean their premises everyday, especially drainage channels and other open spaces to avert any outbreak of diseases and cases of flooding.

“It would be noted that we shall begin to experience rainfall, hence the need to prepare ahead of time in order avert avoidable floods and loss of properties.

“It is imperative to implore residents in the state to take the daily sanitation exercise seriously for a healthy environment is a function of wealthy society.

“The state government has suspended the last Saturday’s environmental sanitation while restriction of vehicular and human movement have been suspended indefinitely.

“However the Environmental Task Force would be going around to ensure compliance and adherence to all the environmental laws and regulations of the state,” Oyeleke said.
