The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Kebbi State Chapter joined their counterpart across the country to stage a peaceful protest to the State House of Assembly today in compliance with the directive from the National Body of the Union over the planned removal of national minimum wage from exclusive to concurrent list and the establishment of State Judiciary.
The protest which started from the Labour House at about 10.am to the House of Assembly Complex was strictly monitored by men of the Nigeria Police and Department of State Security (DSS).
Addressing the Lawmakers, the State Chairman of NLC Halidu Umar Alhassan stated that if matter is implemented, it will compound the problems of workers across the country which will eventually plunge the country into anarchy.
He explained that Nigerians are facing a lot of security challenges today but if the removal is allowed the whole country will be doomed for it. Adding that Labour is not only against the removal of the National minimum wage but also totally against the establishment of the state judiciary.
“Today you are in a ruling party, tomorrow you will be in the position party and if you sign this anti people’s proposal into law, it will be used against you.” He noted.
In his response to the Labour protest, the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Buhari Aliero assured the protecting workers that the State Assembly would not approve any amendment of Nigeria Conarturion to pace the way for the removal of the contentious bill without the contribution of Stake holders.
“I want to assure the NLC that we are going to hold a public hearing on this matter with all stakeholders in the State to determine whether to approve or throw it away.” He said.
He pointed out that the people of Kebbi will not support the removal of the National minimum wage from the exclusive list to the concurrent list as well as the established State Judiciary, adding that such a move with not augur well for this country.
