Nine First Class graduating students bag appointments at Western Delta University

NO fewer than nine First Class graduating students have been given automatic employment by the Western Delta University ( WDU ), Oghara, Delta State.

The benefitting graduates, who bagged the appointments in furtherance of the institution’s avowed commitment to academic excellence, were from the 2017/2018 – 2019/2020 academic sessions.

Announcing the gesture at the combined eigth – 10th convocation ceremony at the university’s permanent site at the weekend, the vice chancellor, Professor (Mrs) Otefe Okobiah, said, the school would continue to reward merit in order to stimulate discipline and strong competition to engender academic excellence among students.

She congratulated the graduates for their patients, diligence and hard work, reminding them of the sacrifices of their parents in spite of the current economic hardship in the country.

Professor (Mrs) Okobiah, who advised the students to make judicious use of what they had acquired through leaning, charged them not to forget the school and be good ambassadors.

A total of nine students graduated with First Class Honours, 212 bagged Second Class Upper Honours, 443 Second Class Lower, and 76 obtained Third Class out of the total 776 students that graduated in the combined 2017/ 2019 to 2019/ 2029 academic sessions convocation.

Mr Isaac Ajekuko, who bagged First Class Honours in Biochemistry with a CGPA of 4.72, emerged the overall best graduating student for the three years in the university.

Besides Ajekuko, who also won the overall best graduating student in the College of Natural & Applied Sciences, seven others bagged various prizes from their various faculties and departments.
