The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that Nigerians will witness an improved electoral process leading to the June 18 governorship election in Ekiti State.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ekiti State, Dr Tella Adeniran who stated this noted that the Commission was determined and prepared to conduct a credible and acceptable election in the state, assuring the people that their votes would count.
The REC spoke in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital on Monday while declaring open a voter education implementation workshop organized by the commission for stakeholders ahead of the election.
He explained that the technological innovations in election management as witnessed in the 2021 Anambra governorship election and the recent area council election in the Federal Capital Territory would be adequately deployed in the June 18 poll to guarantee the integrity of the electoral process.
While commending voters in the state for the increase in the number of Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) collections, urged stakeholders to further enlighten the citizens on the need for them to collect their PVCs ahead of the governorship election.
According to him, sixteen political parties with their candidates would be participating in the election across the 16 local government areas, 2,445 polling units, and the 177 registration areas.
Tella said, ” This engagement is a clear indication of the commission’s resolve to conduct a free, fair and acceptable and inclusive governorship election in Ekiti state on June 18. As the saying goes, he who fails to plan is planning to fail. The commission is developing structures that will support democratic processes for a credible election.
” This feat has been achieved in Anambra and equally the Federal Capital Territory elections. These two elections are better testimonies to the above assertions in line with the recent development in technology imbibe by the commission.
” It is also my aim to say that the success in past elections will be surpassed in the subsequent elections including the 2023 elections. We have been experiencing tremendous changes in our people in picking the PVCs.Let me tell you that we are set for the June 18 governorship election.”
