Nigerians need Twitter, Senate President tells FG

President of the Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan has charged the federal government to lift the ban of suspension on Twitter, saying that Nigerians need the microblogging site.

Senator Lawan said this on Friday in Abuja while speaking with newsmen on the occasion of the second anniversary of the ninth Senate.

“The face-off between the federal government and the social media network, Twitter is an impasse that would soon be resolved,” Senator Lawan said.

“The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation has informed Nigerians that they are talking to Twitter. But our belief is that Nigeria needs Twitter just as Twitter needs Nigeria. Our expectation was that this discussion will resolve the dispute. But beyond that, I am an optimist and I believe all of us have learnt our lessons.”
