Jazz trumpeter, Kwitee believes the Nigerian artistes would do better than the counterparts globally if given the needed support to thrive.
This was his notion as musicians generally are still reeling under the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic with Nigerian artistes getting no support from the Federal Government to be able thrive and overcome the effect of Covid-19.
Speaking with R, the singer, who is set to release his jazz album, said that musicians and entertainers who project the image of the nation ought to be supported more even as there is no enduring structure for musicians to thrive as musicians do everything for themselves as still pay tax for their music business.
“As a musician who has been performing professionally for a decade, I believe the government can still support us and make it less burdensome for musicians to thrive even in this post-COVID-19 pandemic era. It has been a long that artistes have taken charge of their destinies. We seem to get more support from foreign agencies of government.
“Most artistes such as Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy that thrive in this clime do almost everything for themselves and the government now embraces them after they have laboured to gain international recognition. It should not be so,” he said.
Kwitee, who had worked with great musicians such as; Dr. Ron Kenoly, Lionel Peterson, Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, Patoranking, Brymo in the past is set to unveil his jazz album entitled, “Shadows” in May. He added that the new work has nine tracks including, Feeling Within, When love calls, The Trumpet loves me, The Cry, Salute to Marley, Rising of the Sun, Go ft Celeste Shaw, Everything, Market Day and Motherland.
