The Nigerian Army organized a public speaking engagement on Tuesday with students of Government Technical Training School Jalingo as part of the weeklong Nigerian Army Day celebration in 2023.
Brigadier General Frank Etim, the commander of the 6th Brigade, Nigerian Army Jalingo, highlighted that the event was in line with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. T. A Lagbaja, to reposition the Nigerian Army as a professional institution capable of uniting Nigeria for better development.
Etim stated that the purpose of the event was to conduct a public enlightenment campaign to showcase the positive image of the Nigerian Army as an instrument of national unity and integration. He encouraged the Nigerian Army to continue raising awareness among the civilian population in order to make joining the Nigerian Army an attractive option for civilians.
“While I encourage the Nigerian Army to sustain this awareness campaign among the civilian population to make the Nigerian Army more attractive to civilians, I commend the students for demonstrating a keen interest in what is happening in the country and in the military, in particular,” Etim explained.
He further added, “Many of them already harbour the ambition to join the military in the near future. This public engagement became necessary because every soldier was once a civilian, and there is a need to foster the relationship and encourage more civilians to support and join the Nigerian Army.”
Earlier, Lieutenant Colonel Abdulahi Mohammad, the lead facilitator at the occasion, emphasized that the public engagement aimed to give soldiers, staff, and students of the school an opportunity to participate in the activities of the 2023 Nigeria Army Day celebration.
He noted that similar Public Speaking Engagement visits were taking place in all the 36 states’ Command Secondary Schools and the Federal Capital Territory.
Lt. Col. Abdulahi also explained that the exercise aimed to sensitize the students about the importance of being patriotic citizens of Nigeria, embracing the principles of honesty and integrity, avoiding association with criminal activities and individuals, and advocating against cultism, drugs, and substance abuse.
Additionally, he highlighted the potential, unifying power, camaraderie, and inclusiveness of the Nigerian Army.
