Nigeria@61: Policemen disperse #BuhariMustGo protesters in Abuja

Published by

Stern looking policemen, on Friday morning, dispersed some youths protesting under the umbrella of #BuhariMustGo group.

The demonstrators, who were mainly youths, had earlier converged under the Dantata bridge, chanting “President Muhammadu Buhari must go” as well as calling for revolution before they were demobilized by security operatives.

It was, however, learnt that many of them were injured during the attack.

The youths, according to witnesses, were protesting against the insecurity, economy and lack of rule of law in Nigeria.

“The protest began around 6 am and was going on smoothly before the arrival of the police.

#RevolutionNow and #BuhariMustGo protests in Abuja coincide with the nation’s 61st Independence anniversary.

It will be recalled that human rights activist, Comrade Omoyele Sowore, on Thursday, urged Nigerians to protest on Independence Day to reject President Buhari.

According to Sowore: “I am urging all citizens and non-citizens of Nigeria to boycott @MBuhari’s national “INDEPENDENCE DAY” broadcast scheduled for tomorrow, instead you should partake in protests across the country on Friday.”

Sowore was reacting to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, on Thursday, titled: “October Independence Anniversary: President Buhari to broadcast to the Nation.”

Normalcy has since returned to the nation’s capital.
