The presiding pastor of Livingspring Chapel International, Pastor Femi Emmanuel, has averred that though Nigeria is blessed with many resources, both human and natural, it lacks good governance and visionary leadership.
He added that as a result, Nigeria had become a country where young people didn’t want to stay.
Speaking to newsmen on Saturday at the official commissioning of the Dominion City Guest House and Event Centre, held at the Livingspring Chapel International, Aduloju Bus Stop, Ibadan, he noted that Nigeria was in dire need of good governance, seeing how life is becoming too difficult for people on a daily basis.
Speaking further, he charged the youth and religious organisations to take the lead in producing leaders who can lead the nation, saying this cannot be achieved just by voting.
“Political leaders are not just produced on election day. You have to be part of the process of choosing who to be voted for. This is what patriotic Nigerians, the youth and religious organisations have not yet done. You can’t just leave this country in the hands of the politicians, if you do, they will ruin it. The politicians are just there for themselves. The country must find a way to produce good citizens,” he said.
He added: “There are good and patriotic Nigerians who won’t steal. There are good Nigerians who meant well for this country, but the current system will not allow them to emerge.”
He advised that Nigerians should go back to grassroots politics and ensure the emergence of delegates who would select the right people to be voted for.
“That is what Nigeria needs. Also, Nigeria needs to be restructured. We can’t continue this way, we need to be restructured,” he stressed.
While speaking on the rationale behind the construction of the two edifices at the Dominion City, he said, “This is part of our corporate social responsibilities to the development of Ibadan City, Oyo State and Nigeria in general.
“We put up these structures to make life more interesting for the people, make our own contributions, to provide employment for people and to also support the government in ensuring that social amenities are available in the state.”
According to him, there is no single entity that can develop a nation, everyone must make his or her own contribution, both as individual and religious and corporate organisations.
When commenting on how the church generated funds for the project and the cost expended, he said “a lot of our manpower are internally-generated. The cost is not outrageous because all our experts; engineers and builders are all members of the church and they see their efforts as their own contribution towards the achievement of the vision.”
“When the executive governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde came here, to see what we have done. He exclaimed and said whatever these might have cost, will cost the government three times and we will not even come up with this level of excellence,” Pastor Emmanuel said
