Nigeria, Hungary sign MoU on educational cooperation

NIGERIA and Hungary have signed a memorandum of understanding on educational cooperation, which will enable Hungary to offer 50 scholarships annually to Nigerian students to study in Hungarian higher institutions of learning in the fields of agriculure and sciences.

The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, signed on behalf of the Rederal Republic of Nigeria, while the Hungarian Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Professor Gabor Ternak, signed on behalf of the Hungarian People’s Republic, in Abuja.

Speaking before the signing ceremony, Malam Adamu thanked the government and people of Hungary for sustaining the cordial relationship with Nigeria.

The minister noted that Hungary had consistently shown the desire to strengthen bilateral collaboration with Nigeria based on mutual friendship, especially in the area of education.

He said that Nigeria would ensure that the collaboration is beneficial to both countries.

The Hungarian Ambassador, Professor Gabor Ternak, expressed delight over signing of the MoU between his country and Nigeria, saying that this would deepen the existing relationship.

He said there were similarities in the Hungarian education system and that of Nigeria, adding that Nigeria has a lot to learn from the Hungarian education system.

Collaboration in education between Nigeria and Hungary dated back to 1973 when both countries entered into an agreement on cultural and scientific cooperation.
