Muazu Babangida Aliyu
The Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended the immediate past Governor of the state, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, over allegations of anti-party activities leading to cracks in the party since 2014.
The party announced the suspension in a communique issued at the end of an emergency stakeholders’ meeting in Minna on Monday.
PDP suspended the former governor following six allegations which the party in Chanchaga local government area of the state finds “very disturbing and inimical to the party progress.”
The PDP in the communique said Aliyu worked against the re-election bid of former President Goodluck Jonathan and the party’s governorship candidate in the 2015, Alhaji Umar Nasko by supporting and funding the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) with N450million.
The communique, a copy of which was made available to newsmen on Monday in Minna, said the allegations were against Aliyu include the “refusal to participate and attend party activities; undermining and working against the resolutions of party organs especially the state caucus and causing division that has led to the inability to resolve the issues surrounding the position of state legal adviser that has been unoccupied since 2015 in his own local government area.”
The party said further that “these and many others have led to the immediate suspension of Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu from the People’s Democratic Party in Chanchaga local Government.”
The meeting was attended by eight ward chairmen of the party out of the 11 wards in the LGA, elders and party faithful from Chanchaga LGA. The party also asked that Aliyu responds to the allegations levelled against him within 14 days from the date of the meeting.
