Niger govt unravels 22 unregistered Colleges of Health

Published by

A total of 22 alleged fake and unregistered private colleges of health have been uncovered in Niger State.

The State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Abdullahi Mammagi, stated this in a post-Executive Council press briefing at the Press Gallery, Government House Minna over the weekend.

Mammagi also revealed that out of the 34 duly registered health institutions in various parts of the state, the majority of them were allegedly engaged in fraudulent practices by offering unaccredited courses.

He pointed out that there was an ongoing court case between the Ministry and the proprietor of a private college of health who was accused of borrowing and copying the certificate of registration from another school to establish his own college.

The Commissioner, however, explained that in a concerted effort to combat the problem of the proliferation of fake Private Health institutions in the state, a taskforce has been set up by the Ministry, involving key stakeholders in the education sector in Niger State.

In another development, the state Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Barr. Maurice Magaji has enjoined owners of houses built on school premises or sharing fences with schools in parts of the state to vacate such buildings.

He pointed out that the decision was aimed at creating a conducive environment for teaching and learning in the state, adding that plans were underway to relocate the Government Science Secondary School Kagara boarding school in Rafi Local Government Area of the state to Minna the state capital in view of the protracted insecurity challenges bedevelling the area.
