Niger govt to close Lapai-Paiko road to truck drivers for rehabilitation works Wednesday

Published by

Niger State Government has said that the Lapai-Paiko road will be closed to articulated trucks and petrol tankers for 72 hours as from Wednesday.

The state Commissioner of Works and Infrastructural Development, Hon Mamman Musa, said the closure will help pave way for total reconstruction of the road.

He stated this during a press conference held in Minna, the state capital on Monday.

He said the road was being put into use before now by heavy-duty trucks thereby leading to the deplorable condition of the road.

When asked if the tanker drivers will also block the Lapai-Lambata-Agaei road as a result of the road. closure, Musa said “it will not come to that at all,” because he has made contact with NARTO leadership from the northern part of the country to that effect.

The commissioner further informed journalists that the state government under the leadership of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has spent about N7 Billion on reconstruction and rehabilitation of federal roads in parts of the state in the past six years without being refunded by the Federal Government.

Hon Musa stated further that Niger State has been unfortunate that the FG has not been fair to the state in terns of Federal roads reconstruction and rehabilitation considering the number of votes produced by the state during the past 2015 and 2019 general elections in the country.
