Niger govt, AfDB partner for 30-year development plan

Published by

Niger State Government is set to develop a 30-year Development Plan (SDP) that will be implemented in phases.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago made this announcement during a meeting with Lamin Barrow, the Director General (D.G) of the Nigeria Country Office of the African Development Bank (AfDB), held in Abuja.

The purpose of the meeting was to establish a partnership between the Niger State government and AfDB to initiate various developmental projects, including the construction of schools, irrigation schemes, and renewable energy initiatives.

Governor Umaru Bago emphasized that the SDP would play a crucial role in advancing agriculture. He specifically mentioned that the government would allocate 100,000 hectares of land for agricultural activities, utilizing the state’s extensive land resources. Additionally, efforts would be focused on creating Agro-Processing Zones and promoting renewable energy.

The governor also highlighted the state’s abundant mineral resources, expressing the administration’s intention to attract investors by leveraging these resources. He assured that the state government would prioritize creating a business-friendly environment for investors.

Lamin Barrow, the D.G. of AfDB’s Nigeria Country Office, expressed confidence that the partnership would facilitate desired development outcomes and improve the lives of the citizens, particularly those in rural areas. He acknowledged Governor Bago’s banking experience and believed that his administration possessed the capability to deliver significant dividends of democracy to the people.
