Niger Governor, Umaru Bago, has announced a scholarship award for five pupils from a public school in the state who represented Nigeria in an international debate competition held in Indonesia and emerged winners.
The governor made the announcement when the trophy and participants were presented to him at the Government House in Minna.
The scholarship will cover secondary school to tertiary level, with the possibility of further studies overseas for exceptional performers.
Governor Bago commended the pupils for their outstanding performance, saying it has brought pride to the state and the country.
In addition to the scholarship, the governor promised to give each participant’s parents N500,000 and N5 million to the officials who led the team to the competition.
In a separate event, students from the Niger State School for Special Education presented a trophy won at the National Deaf Secondary Schools Football Championship held in Nasarawa State.
The governor congratulated the team for its efforts and pledged continued support to the students.
