NGO awards scholarship to indigent students in Ibadan

A non-governmental organisation, Mafoya Oluwambe Foundation, has awarded scholarship to some indigent students in Ibadan.

The beneficiaries who were selected from primary and secondary schools in Ibadan, were declared to be sponsored till the end of their educational career.

Speaking at the event, the coordinator of the foundation, Mr Olusegun Agboola, explained that the award was given in  celebration of the fifth anniversary of the late patriarch of the family, Pa Ezekiel Amoo Agboola, who died some  five years ago.

He added that the gesture was also in continuation of the patriarch’s legacy, adding that a cheque of N5 million was presented to commence the initiative.

Agboola hinted  that the beneficiaries were selected from the St Peters Cathedral Church, where the late patriarch worshiped during his lifetime, while the N5 million cheque which  was meant to kick-off the programme was presented to the church.

Mr Agboola, also noted that the initiative was aimed at reducing the number of out-of-school children which according to him had increased immensely.

He however expressed worry over  the state of education in the country, adding that the foundation would contribute its quota towards  improving  the education sector.
