NFIU Autonomy: Dogara’s reaction was in good faith ―Reps Member

THE Chairman of the  House of Representatives ad-hoc Committee on US/Nigeria Relations On Sunday  said that the Speaker of the House, Hon  Yakubu Dogara’s position on Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit,NFIU last year that the agency should not be removed from EFCC was done in good faith.

Speaking with News in Abuja yesterday the law maker said, “the Speaker granted the interview to EFCC in house publication in 2016 over one year ago and was published in EFCC magazine last year and also aired on AIT more than one year ago

“As at then, Nigeria was not suspended from the Egmont group.

“With the recent suspension and the imminent sack, this may no longer be the personal opinion of the Speaker any more

“More so, the Speaker cannot influence the decision of the House. Definitely, the House has a decision to make and it will surely act when the bill is forwarded from the Senate.

Recalled  that the NFIU bill was passed by the Senate last giving the NFIU autonomy to operate outside the confines of the EFCC.

Agbonayinma insisted that the Speaker did right thing as at 2016 when Nigeria had not been suspended from the group.

According to him,”as it’s now the House would concur to the position of the Senate after a careful scrutiny of the bill and we’ll immediately do the needful”.
