As part of efforts to bridge energy gaps and address the energy crisis in Nigeria, one of the foremost indigenous renewable energy companies in the country, Nexgen Energy, has commissioned a multimillion naira facility in Ibadan.
The facility which is described as the first energy hub to be launched in the Southwest region was on Thursday commissioned by the Ondo State governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu.
Speaking at the event, the deputy governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Ayedatiwa, who represented the governor at the inauguration described the edifice as a great initiative and the services it has to render as of great benefit to the nation’s economy and humanity at large.
Ayedatiwa said: “I am so delighted to be the one to commission and unveil Nexgen Energy Hub, and I believe it will serve as samples for energy efficiency, because of what they are going to be providing for the public; by delivering clean energy fuel for the future.
“This hub, I believe will create as much positivity as possible by delivering clean energy solutions while leaving lasting economic, social and environmental benefits for many years and indeed, decades in Nigeria.”
He noted that “Nigeria’s pursuit of energy solution has followed his single track of on-grid power until recently when off-grid became a focal policy of the federal government.
“And it is therefore pleasing that the private sector is seriously keying into the policy shift by building off-grid power.”
While addressing journalists in a media briefing, the managing director of Nexgen, Engr Ukah Ibe said the company is ready to bring an overhauling to the energy sector in the country by “providing innovative solar energy solutions that can power homes, communities and small and medium enterprises.”
The electrical/electronic engineering graduate boasted that the company forayed into the renewable energy industry to provide affordable, clean and sustainable energy on climate action, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) numbers 7 and 13.
Ibe charged everyone to consider solar solutions and no longer rely on fossil fuels which he described as a threat to global warming.
He, therefore, advocated for the government’s cooperation with the company and renewable energy solutions.
He said: “I urge the government to show more commitment to achieving economic growth alongside environmental sustainability. The way out is to invest more in renewable energy solutions to run the economy.”
The event also had in attendance the wife and co-founder of Nexgen, Mrs Ezenne Ibe; the president of the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN), Dr Segun Adaju, representative of the National Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEE), some staff members of the IITA, representatives of the Oyo State government, a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly amongst others.
The newly erected facility which houses an experience centre, 30 seater capacity training rooms, digitised showroom and an ultra-modern service centre is expected to offer capacity for young people and create thousands of jobs, as analysed by Ibe.
