New salary scale for teachers will enhance intellectual advancement ― Reps member

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency(FERMA), Honourable Femi Bamisile, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving a special salary package and extension in the years of service from 35 to 40 for teachers in the country.

The lawmaker, who stated this while reacting to the 2020 Best Secondary School Teacher’s Award in Nigeria won by an Ekiti Teacher, Mr Olaoluwa Asubiojo, said: “The President’s announcement will further encourage the teachers in the country to work hard for the betterment of the society.”

The lawmaker, who represents Ekiti South Federal constituency 2 also lauded the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, for providing an enabling atmosphere for teachers in the State to perform optimally.

He also lauded teachers in Ekiti State “for reciprocating the present administration’s gesture on their welfares by being committed to their duties at all times.”

In a statement made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, on Tuesday, Bamisile said: “The President’s latest gesture has further shown that there is still hope for the teaching profession. The development will further pave way for intellectual advancement in the country.

“The feat recorded by Mr Asubiojo is, no doubt, a great achievement for Dr Kayode Fayemi, Ekiti teachers and all Ekiti people both at home and in the diaspora.

“Ekiti is known for its leading class in education in Nigeria and the latest development has further reaffirmed the position of the state in the comity of states in the country.

“The efforts of Dr Kayode Fayemi in the education sector since inception has continued to yield positive results, hence the need for a more pragmatic approach by all to sustain the educational reform in the state.

“The present administration’s commitment towards the welfare of teachers and other civil servants in the state especially in the areas of prompt salary payment and other remunerations had resulted in better productivity.”

Bamisile congratulated all Ekiti teachers and urged them to remain committed to professionalism and assured them that the APC led government in the state would continue to support them to compete with their contemporaries in any part of the country.
