New IPAC national executive committee vows to resist one-party system

Published by

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), on Thursday, inaugurated its newly elected National Executive Committee (NEC) to steer the affairs of the Council for the next two years.

The NEC members who were elected on December 13, 2021, include Engr Yabagi Yusuf Sani (Action Democratic Party), as National Chairman, Mgbudem Maxwell (Accord Party), Deputy National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle (Allied People’s Movement), National Secretary, Obidike Okolo (National Rescue Movement), National Treasurer.

Others are Dr Olu Agunloye (Social Democratic Party), National Financial Secretary, Amb. Agbo Major (New Nigeria Peoples Party), National Publicity Secretary,  Egbeola Olawale Martins (Young Progressives Party), National Organising Secretary, and Julius Abure (Labour Party) as National Legal Adviser.

Presenting his address after their inauguration at IPAC headquarters in Abuja, the newly elected Chairman, Engr Yabagi Sani, said the new NEC of the Council was called to a national service of sacrifice and selflessness.

He said there would be an emphasis on building bridges with the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary.

“We are just being called to engage in the national service of sacrifice and selflessness. A service in the leadership of IPAC demands dedication, vision and courage in the project of entrenching the roots of democracy in all its ramifications.

“Emphasis will be placed on the reconstruction of bridges of goodwill and mutually beneficial relationships between IPAC and the three arms government,” he stated.

He said IPAC would strive to ensure the existence of a multi-party system in the Nigerian democracy in order to do away with any form of dictatorship characterised by one-party system.

“We shall be embarking on the task of projecting the progress and landmarks of democracy in Nigeria on the platforms of democratic nations with the anticipated benefits of engendering international goodwill, confidence and the concomitant attraction of various forms of global support.

“The existence of multiple political parties is a defining feature of democracy and therefore, we must pay appropriate attention to the sustenance of multi-party democracy in Nigeria.

“This will be a bulwark against the dangers of a one-party state which is the harbinger of dictatorship and bad governance,” Sani added.
