NCoS: Kidnapped Niger assistant controller of corrections regains freedom

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Niger State Command, has said that a senior officer of the command, Assistant Controller of Corrections (ACC) Abdulrahman Ibrahim Gegele has regained his freedom from his abductors.

The Correctional Service Public Relations Officer, Niger State Command, CSC Rabiu Mohammed Shuaibu, stated this in a press statement issued and made available to Journalists on Wednesday in Minna, adding that the officer reunited with his family in the early hours of Wednesday, 1st May 2024, after spending almost two weeks in the kidnappers’ den.

“According to the senior officer, he was able to escape in a bold move when the military engaged the bandits in a heavy gun duel at their camp within a forest around Kontagora axis of Niger State, on Sunday, 28th April 2024”, the statement said.

The Command added, “It will be recalled that the officer was reported to have been abducted on the 17th of April 2024 along Ilorin-Minna Road. It will also be recalled that the bandits demanded a ransom of twenty-five million Naira (25,000000)  from the family when they contacted them for the second time since the abduction.

“Meanwhile, the controller of Corrections, Nigerian correctional service, Niger State Command, CC. Mohammed Hamisu Isa, on behalf of the officers and men of the command, thanks the Controller General of Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, the Nigerian military, DSS, sister security agencies, Niger State Government, the Media and other well-wishers for their efforts, support and prayers for the officer’s safe release.”
