THE director of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), South-West Zone, Ibadan, Mr Raphael Akpan, has emphasised the need for more trained broadcast professionals as the number of radio stations continue to increase.
Akpan made this call at the first convocation ceremony of TNM Media Academy in Ibadan, Oyo State while commending the efforts of the academy in producing quality professionals to close the existing labour gap in the private sector of the broadcast industry.
The Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan, Professor Afis Oladosu, who delivered the convocation lecture, advised the graduands, numbering 105, to utilise the skills they had acquired and seize the opportunity of the digital economy to advance their career in the media profession.
Professor Oladosu advised the fresh graduates to pursue their goals patiently, grow organically and shun the materialistic tendencies that push contemporary youths to untoward behaviours.
A former head of the Department of Communication and Language Arts, University of Ibadan, Professor Ayo Ojebode, urged the graduands to be good ambassadors of the academy and set their eyes on reaching the summit of their career without compromise.
In her goodwill message, the Executive Secretary of the Board for Technical and Vocational Education (BOTAVED), Oyo State, Mrs E. C. Esan-Williams, commended TNM Media Academy for assisting to train job creators as against the conventional educational practice of training job seekers.
According to her, this is in tandem with the vision of the state government.
In a remark, the Provost of TNM Media Academy, Alhaji AbdulRasaq AbdulGaneey, reiterated the commitment of the academy to 100 per cent practical training of students in broadcasting, advertising and public speaking.
Abdulganeey said the Oyo State government approved its operation in 2019, the academy had trained no fewer than 200 skilled professionals, many of whom are now practising in different broadcast stations across Nigeria.
A highlight of the ceremony was the invitation of the graduating students by the deputy provost of the academy, Mr Kamoru Salaudeen, for an official handshake with the chairman of the governing council and advisory board of the academy, Dr Liadi Salami, who is a former Accountant General of Oyo State, and a member of the governing council, the Chief Executive Officer of Kayrom Lee Group of Companies, Ambassador Romoke Ayinde.
Also present at the convocation occasion were popular actress, Rose Odika; General Manager, Amuludun FM, Ibadan, Pastor Niyi Dahunsi; a retired deputy director of FRCN Training School, Lagos, Alhaji Salim Abioye; Chief Executive Officer, Royal B Ltd, Alhaja Bola Salami; the proprietor of Allahus-Samad Group of Schools, Ibadan, Alhaja Aminat Olaboopo; Mr AbdHakeem Oyetayo (MC Handsome of Fresh FM) and a host of other dignitaries and stakeholders in the media industry.
