Nasarawa students laud Army’s efforts, sacrifice in uniting Nigeria

A cross-section of students in Nasarawa State has lauded the Nigerian Army for their efforts in defending Nigeria as a country and maintaining it as one indivisible nation.

The students from Government Science School and Government College all in Lafia gave the commendation at an engagement to commemorate the 2023 Nigerian Army Day Celebration on Monday in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

Eze Udoka, an SS two student from Government College expressed gratitude for being part of the engagement with the Nigerian Army where he learned a lot about things he never knew before.

Udoka explained that he would have missed a lot if he was not part of those selected for the interaction with the defenders of the nation.

“The short documentary we watched about the establishment, objectives, responsibility, challenges and success stories of the Army told me a lot about how much the sacrifice they are making to keep us secured and safe.

“I am also encouraged to think of having a career in the Army since there are different careers that one can pursue,” he added.

Similarly, Zilli Joy an SS one student of Science School Lafia said that the presentation by the two speakers had exposed her to the kind of sacrifice the Army was making to keep the country together.

Joy added that from today, she would respect any Army officer she sees because of the kind of sacrifice they are making.

Earlier, Commander of 4 Special Forces, Doma, Maj.-Gen. Owyinka Soyele, represented by Col. Yusuf Isa said that the Chief of Army Staff, Maj-Gen. Abiodun Lagbaja had directed that the 2023 celebration be done in schools to build positive characters in the young ones.

He explained that the country is currently in need of people with good character and getting the students from secondary schools would help to build the pull that the country can tap from in the future.

“This is the reason that the Chief of Army Staff has thought it wise that the advocacy for building good character should be taken to secondary schools to catch them young,” the Commander added.

The engagement featured a presentation on the criteria for selection and enlistment into the Nigerian Army, career opportunities in the Army, civil-military relations, and effects of drug abuse by Maj. Obolo Akinbowale and Capt. Nobet Otinya.

The highlight of the event include the presentation of gifts to students who answered questions from the documentary and presentations made.
