NAQS empowers youths, women with skills in modern fish farming

The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), in collaboration with Hicoti Consulting Limited, has empowered youths and women with modern fish farming skills to enhance production. More than 50 participants from Alimosho federal constituency in Lagos State received training in various modern techniques of fish farming aimed at increasing fish production for public consumption and improving their livelihoods.

During the opening ceremony of the five-day training program held in Lagos, Mr. Tokunbo Ayekoti, the Chairman of Hicoti Consulting Limited, congratulated the participants for being part of this historic event. He urged them to make the most of the skills they acquired during the training to ensure that their time is well spent.

Ayekoti expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) for organizing the training workshop, which is designed to help women and youths in Alimosho Federal Constituency become self-reliant by engaging in fish farming.

The training coordinator, Professor Adeboye Omole, provided an overview of the training workshop, highlighting catfish production as a good source of income that requires minimal space and capital to operate.

Honourable Ganiyu Adele Ayuba, the Member representing Alimosho federal constituency in the House of Representatives, commended NAQS for bringing the training to his constituency. He encouraged the youths to be law-abiding and proactive in achieving their life goals and urged participants to apply what they learned during the training in practice.

Dr. Vincent Isegbe, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), emphasized NAQS’s vision and mission in training members of the public in areas such as disease and biosecurity measures, best management practices for both livestock and crop production, with the aim of achieving higher yields, generating income, and gaining exposure to international markets.
