The National leadership of the Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) on Wednesday raised alarm over an alleged plan of some elements within the association to form a parallel group to elect a new set of executive members, which they said is in contravention of the constitution of the association.
The group, which raised the alarm at a press conference addressed by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Precious Ademola Ekundayo, in Osogbo, called on security operatives to be aware of the development, which he described as an illegal move.

According to Ekundayo, who was flanked by Alhaji Jimoh Abiodun, National Legal Adviser, and Alhaji Sakariyau Eniola, National Welfare Officer, “We reliably gathered that some elements within the association are planning to form a parallel group with the aim of electing a new set of executives, which is in contravention of the constitution of the association. We hereby condemn this move and declare that their mission is illegal and it’s dead on arrival, as sucha move will not in any way promote the association, and we hereby stand against it.
“The clandestine move of these people within the association to form a parallel group is inimical to the vision and mission of the association.
“These elements are making moves to form a parallel leadership as moves are currently being made to use some impostors who are non-members of the association to attend a purported NEC meeting that they plan to organise in Abuja on Thursday, 22nd May, 2025.
“I wish to inform the whole world through the media that the illegal NEC meeting is against the constitution of NAPTAN. We have reliably gathered that many of those whose names appear on the list of those billed to attend the purported meeting were not aware of the clandestine motive behind the illegal meeting, and many of them have already claimed ignorance of the message, claiming that their names were only put in the said notice of meeting without seeking their clear consent and against their wish.
“It’s unfortunate that what this set of people cannot get through the open door, they are planning to get it through the back door and this shall not see the light of day. Their action is against the constitution of NAPTAN and we shall not keep our eyes open to see this illegal act being perpetrated.
“Whereas, the National Executive Association (NEC) of the association did not at time organize such election, neither was there any plan for the current executives of the association, led by our able and dynamic National President, Alhaji Kazeem Danjuma Haruna, to vacate their offices without any recourse to due process and in proper consonance with the constitution of the association.
“From all indications and facts available to us at the national secretariat of NAPTAN, the organisers of the purported NEC meeting will make use of impostors to impersonate as real NEC members. I wish to reiterate that the tenure of the current executives of the association, led by our indefatigable national president, Alhaji Haruna Danjuma, is still intact, and measures are being made to ensure a smooth transition of power at the appropriate time in line with the constitution of the association and in conformity with due process.
“The national president has already consented to organising a national congress, and this will be held in July this year; hence the need for everyone to remain patient and peaceful,” he submitted.
