NANS warns against activities of impostors

Published by

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has raised the alarm over activities of impostors parading themselves as leaders of the association to cause a breach of peace on campuses and defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.

The leadership of NANS, Ogun Joint Campus Committee (JCC), particularly said that its attention has been drawn to “claims by some group of impostors masquerading themselves as the authentic executive of NANS in Ogun State, and we want to clearly emphasise that nothing can be further from the truth.

In a statement jointly signed by 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐊𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐥𝐚 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧, 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧, NANS, Ogun JCC, and nine NANS Senators from Ogun State, made available to newsmen, on Friday, in Abuja, noted some aggrieved members who did not even participate in the election recently conducted have been parading themselves as authentic leaders of NANS in Ogun State.

The statement read in part: “Firstly, the election of the executive of NANS in Ogun State, led by Comrade Damilola Kehunde Simeon, popularly known as Daosmos, was held, on Saturday, January 31, in conformity with the constitution of NANS and the guidelines and code of conduct of this reputable association.

“The claims by some group led by one Samson Adeyemi, parading themselves as the authentic executive, is nothing but a calculated plan targeted at bringing the name of this noble association into disrepute.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the election which was held under a peaceful atmosphere was attended, monitored and observed by all the relevant stakeholders, including; men of the Ogun State Police Command, personnel of the Department of State Security Service (DSS), representatives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), members of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and government officials, among others.

“At the end of the exercise, Daosmos polled 9 votes from the total votes of 10 accredited Senators from the 10 Higher institutions present at the election ground.

“It is disappointing, contemptible and despicable to know that some persons are laying unfounded claims to the leadership of the NANS in Ogun State when they did not even participate in the election,” NANS said.

The students, therefore, called the attention of the State Commissioner of Police, CP, Awolowo Edward Ajogun, the State Director of the Department of Security Service (DSS), the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Commandant of the So Safe Corps to put an end to activities of these impostors.

Meanwhile, the Students’ Union Presidents of all the tertiary institutions in Ogun State commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for appointing one of their own, Comrade Azeez Adeyemi as the Special Adviser on Students’ Affairs and passed a vote of confidence in the Comrade Damilola Kehunde Simeon – led leadership.

“We also pass a vote of confidence in the leadership of Comrade Azeez Adeyemi and we issue a stern warning to these group of scoundrels to desist from any further attack on the person of Adeyemi,” the Ogun student Union leaders said.
