The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has urged the management of tertiary institutions to be flexible with their students on virtual learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The South-West Coordinator of NANS, Olawale Kappo, made the call in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.
He said that not all students have the financial capacity to procure smartphones or phones that could be connected to the internet.
“We have engaged both federal and state government officials on how to make learning effective most especially in this trying time where it’s difficult to make ends meet.
“The Federal ministry of education is not unaware of our recommendations and demands on virtual learning and some other progressive agitations we requested from the government.
“We sincerely appreciate the management of some tertiary institutions that have taken bold steps regarding the virtual learning,” he said.
Kappo urged Nigerian students not to partake in any meeting or protest called by any impostors to cause unnecessary commotion and disunity amongst students.
“We enjoin students not to partake in any protest as it is not proper at this time the country is battling with the COVID-19 pandemic as it will further expose the students to the virus.
“As a focused leadership of the zone, our activities are not restricted to social media because incessant blabbing, ranting and baseless denigrations on social media without physical actions or moves cannot yield a positive result.
“The leadership of our indivisible association has been following some events on social platforms some days back,” he said.
