NANS urges FG to provide adequate security for tertiary institutions

Published by

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the federal government to intensify efforts to provide adequate security of life and property to tertiary institutions.

Babatunde Hafiz, the Senate President of the Association, stated this while presenting a communiqué to journalists shortly after the inaugural Senate sitting held at the main campus of Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja on Friday.

He said the declaration of a state of emergency will enable the federal and state governments to tackle various security challenges in tertiary institutions, noting that many students in recent times have been abducted on their campuses.

The students’ union leader appealed to the management of the University of Benin to reverse the suspension of students’ government in the institution and called on other tertiary institutions that do not have democratically elected governments to do that in the interest of the students.

He said that the NANS has passed a vote of confidence in Governor Usman Ododo for approving the hosting of the Senate meeting in the state.

The union leader urged the EFCC to do their work within the ambit of the law and should not create the impression that they have a personal grudge against former governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State.
