‘My wife threatened me with fetish objects, fought me with knife’

A man, Oye Adam, has dragged his wife, Ola Adam, before Grade A Customary Court,  Oja Oba, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, on the grounds that she is irresponsible and in the habit of deserting their home at will.

He also said that she always fought him with a knife.

Oye in addition stated that Ola was fetish and fond of placing scary items all over the place in their apartment.

The plaintiff told the court that the defendant packed out of his house without his knowledge and locked the door to her room and other places in the house.

According to him, she sometimes came home when he was at work, and would drop fetish objects in their home.

Oye,therefore, prayed the court to end their marriage and grant him custody of  their children.

Ola was not in court despite being served court summonses.

Oye in his testimony said, “My lord, I live in fear in my own house because my wife is devil.

“I did not know I was signing in for trouble when I got married to Ola. She has succeeded in making a mess of my life.

“My wife regularly neglected her duties towards me and our children. She showed us no love or care and was not bothered about our welfare.

“Ola was hardly ever at home. She would leave home without my permission and fail to make proper arrangement for our children’s feeding.

“Ola would return home late at night and go to bed without giving any explanation for her lateness.

“We fight over this almost all the time because she was not repentant.

“My wife went from bad to worse. She stated deserting the home for weeks without leaving a clue about her whereabouts.

“The most annoying thing was that she would act as if all was well when she finally returned home, and this gets me pissed off.

“Ola would go wild and violent if I dare demanded to know where she had been for weeks.

“She would fight me like a wounded lion and hit me with any item within her reach.

“There were times she fought me with a knife.

“I reported my wife to her family members, but they refused to mediate in our differences because she has no regard for them.

“I left for office one day and met an empty house by the time I returned.

“My wife had packed all her belongings and moved out of our home.

“She locked her room and some other parts of our apartment, and went away with the keys.

“I am scared of my wife because she now engages in fetish practices which she carries out in the house when I am busy at work.

“Ola now places scary objects and fetish items in different parts of the apartment.

“I live in fear in the house and find it difficult to sleep.

“She came to the house to threaten me after she was served the court summon and hearing, and vowed never to come to court.

“I beseech this honourable court to end our wedlock and order my wife to open all the doors she locked.

“I also plead for the custody of our children because my wife has no time for them.

“I promise not to fail in looking after their welfare as I have always done.

“I further pray the court to restrain my wife from threatening me.”

The president of the court, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case after she had heard the plaintiff and asked that a fresh hearing notice be issued and served the defendant.
