My wife left home on pretext of getting job, moved in with another man —Husband

A woman, Zainab Raifu, recently dragged her husband, Ramoni Raifu to court, seeking that it put an end to their marriage.

Zainab sought for divorce on the grounds of lack of love.

The plaintiff told the court she no longer loved her husband because he was irresponsible and has constantly neglected her and their children.

She added that her husband’s worst behaviour was that of battery.

Zainab explained that Ramoni placed no value on her. According to her, he treated her like a dog and beat her at every given opportunity.

The plaintiff stated that she was fed up with being treated like a slave in her marriage.

She thus prayed the court to put an end to their relationship.

Zainab further appealed to the court to grant her custody of their children and restrain the defendant from coming to harass her in her new place of abode or work place.

Ramoni gave his consent to divorce.

The defendant who expressed relief that his wife wanted to leave him stated that she was morally bankrupt.

He stated that his wife was promiscuous and had slept with quite a number of men, many of whom are younger than her in their community.

Ramoni further stated that Zainab was a liar. According to him, she told him she got a job as a house maid and that he allowed her to leave home and work at the place not knowing she was lying.

The defendant said he later learnt that she had moved in with another man.

Ramoni pleaded with the court after it might have separated them to please hand over their children to him so that he could inculcate in them the right values.

“I have suffered enough in the hands of my husband. There is no point staying glued to an irresponsible and worthless man like him which is the reason I want divorce, “Zainab told the court.

“Ramoni lives as if he is still a bachelor. He never discusses anything with me and takes decisions on his own not caring what effect they have on me and our children.

“My husband is selfish and cares only for himself. He has never being interested in our welfare.

“He hardly gives me money for food. I run from pillar to post to ensure our children are fed. I solely face the challenge of seeing to their welfare.

“Ramoni leaves the children to their fate when they are sick while their education has never being his priority. I bear the brunt of the expenses of our children’s education but all he does is to complain and display rage on the few occasions they requested things from him.

“My husband is in the habit of beating me. He beats me to a pulp whenever we had an argument because he hated that I point at his faults or shortcomings.

“Ramoni has no regard for my parents. They have warned him times without number to desist from beating me but he has refused.

“His level of disrespect has heightened because he now passes insult on them.

“My lord, I can’t put up with Ramoni’s inadequacies any longer.

“I beg this court to rule that we are no longer husband and wife.

“I also pray that our children’s custody be granted me since I am the one who has been taking care of them, “the plaintiff pleaded.

Ramoni giving his evidence said: “My lord, I will be glad if you dissolve my marriage to my wife.

“Zainab lacks moral virtues and has no shame. She is a slut.

“My wife services men in our community sexually at no cost. People poke fun at her and ridicule her any time she passes by.

“My lord, Zainab condescended so low to the extent of sleeping with men who are younger than her in the neighbourhood, “he said.

Ramoni added that, “I have stopped trusting my wife a long time ago because she’s a liar.

“Zainab did the worst when she lied to me she was going to work in a home as a housemaid for some months.

“I gave her my consent but to my chagrin, my wife moved into another man’s house. She lived with him as his wife for those months without officially divorcing me.

“I stopped regarding her as my wife since then.

“My lord, I agree that you stop our relationship. My union with Zainab has brought me nothing but pain and shame.

“I pray the court to grant me custody of our children. There is the need to inculcate in them the right virtues, “the defendant concluded.

Ruling after he had heard both parties, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade, dissolved their marriage and granted custody of their last child to the plaintiff and the other two to the defendant.

The defendant was asked to be responsible for their last child’s feeding and general welfare, giving priority to her education and healthcare.

Both were advised to maintain peace.
