My wife is domineering, dictates when we should have sex —Husband

Published by

A woman, Adjarat Lawal recently told Oja Oba/ Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, she was no longer interested in her marriage to her husband, Dauda Lawal.

Adjarat  in her divorce suit accused her husband of maltreatment of her and their children.

The plaintiff stated that her husband refused to take up his responsibility as head of the home and constantly starved her and their children.

She explained that she worked round the clock to meet the needs of their five children because her husband cared less if they lived or not.

Adjarat stated that Dauda despite failing to live up to his responsibility in the home, still insisted on having more children which she was not in support of.

The plaintiff explained that her refusal to accede to her husband’s wish often times resulted in severe beating of her by her husband.

Adjarat told the court that Dauda once beat her to a pulp and broke her leg.

According to her, Dauda disappeared from home after the incident and failed to check on her  for over a month that she was on admission in the hospital.

The plaintiff stated that Dauda at another time forcefully had sex with her.

Adjarat further added that her husband was indifferent to their children’s education.

She explained that he refused to give their son a dime when he gained admission into an institution of higher learning and throughout his stay in school.

According to her, their child took up menial jobs to train himself in school while she added her widow’s might to whatever he made on the job.

The plaintiff said the defendant later took another wife, whom he bragged would give him more children.

Adjarat told the court she was tired of her husband’s irresponsible acts and therefore prayed the court to end their relationship and grant her custody of their children who her husband had neglected for too long.

Dauda agreed that their union be dissolved.

The defendant accused his mother in-law of constantly working against their marriage.

Dauda stated that Adjarat’s mother hated him.

He also told the court that his wife was domineering in nature and that she wanted to usurp his position in the home.

According to Dauda, Adjarat constantly denied him sex and always decided what time she felt suitable that  we slept together.

Daura stated that he could no longer tolerate Adjarat’s bossy attitude, he thus gave his consent to her prayer for divorce.

Adjarat in her testimony said “My lord, I don’t want to go any further in my marriage to my husband. Dauda has frustrated me enough and I believe it is time to move on.

“My husband never believes that it is his duty to take care of his home. He daily shirks his responsibility and left the running of the home to me.

“I have bore the weight of this task for long and it is gradually killing me. But I refuse that I die now.

“I’m the one feeding and clothing our children. Dauda is not bothered about our welfare. Our children have stopped demanding from him their needs because he would always send them back to me.

“My lord, my husband to my chagrin is still demanding that we have more children despite his failure to take care of our five children.

“We fight over this almost all the time.

“He once had sex with me by force and at another time beat me to a pulp and broke my leg.

“I was on admission in the hospital for over a month and he didn’t come to check on me. It was my family members who came to my aid by paying my medical bills,” the plaintiff.

Adjarat added that, “Dauda totally lost the respect our children had for him when he refused to contribute a dime towards the training of our first child in a tertiary institution.

“Our son took up menial jobs to sponsor himself in school while I also contributed my widow’s mite.

“Dauda later took another wife and bragged that she would give him more than enough children.

“My lord, I have tolerated my husband’s inadequacies enough.  I’m done with our marriage.

“I pray this honourable court to end our wedlock and grant me custody of our children,” she pleaded.

Dauda in his evidence explained that “my mother in-law hates me and has refused that our marriage work.”

He said: “She is the one who advised my wife to come to court.

“Adjarat has no regard for me. She is domineering in nature and loves to dictate the tune in our home and this I always stand against. I have told her she can’t usurp my position as the head of the home.

“My lord, Adjarat constantly denies me my conjugal rite. She dictates or chooses what time is best for her to sleep with me.

“I took another wife because I couldn’t bear her insults any longer,” the defendant concluded.

Ruling after he had heard both parties, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade, stated that it was obvious that their relationship had broken down irretrievably.

Ruling, Odunade dissolved their union.

Both were advised to maintain peace.
