Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State has adjourned till July 27, further hearing on the divorce suit brought before it by a man, Rasaki Ajao against his wife, Mariam Ajao, whom he accused of neglect, wickedness and violence.

Rasaki while giving instances to back up his claim, explained that Mariam once drew a knife at him during a misunderstanding and that he ran for his dear life.

He added that at another time his wife attempted to pour acid on him.

The defendant according to the plaintiff abandoned her duties towards him and refused that he had rest of mind which made him arrest her with the police.

Rasaki told the court he no longer loved his wife and therefore pleaded that their union be dissolved.

Mariam refused to come to court despite being served court summonses.

Rasaki in his testimony said, “Mariam and I met, dated and started living together as a couple. No marriage ceremony held between us.

“I realised from the outset of our marriage that my wife did not love me.

“She pays me no attention and cares less about my welfare.

“The more I complain, the worse she becomes which results in our constant fight.

“My wife is wicked and derives pleasure in seeing me unhappy.

“Mariam is also violent.

“She once threatened me with a knife during a fight and would have stabbed me if I did not take to my heels.

“My lord, Marian also attempted to pour acid on me because I refused to dance to her tune.

“I got my wife arrested by the police after giving me much hell and making our home inhabitable for me.

“Mariam has frustrated me enough and I pray the court to dissolve our marriage. I cannot stay a minute longer under the same roof with her.

The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo after she had heard the plaintiff, adjourned the case and ordered that a further hearing notice be issued and served the defendant.
