My 60-year-old Uncle who is a commercial driver, finds it difficult to control his urine as he regularly wets the driver’s seat. Kindly let me know what may cause this kind of problem and what to do about it.

What your Uncle has is known as Urinary Incontinence. This is an unintentional loss of urine. It can be caused by some underlying factors such as; weak or damaged bladder muscles, overactive bladder muscles, certain prostate conditions as well as nerve damage. Diagnosis of urinary incontinence in men will involve a medical history and physical exam, and may include keeping a bladder diary. It may also include an ultrasound and urodynamic testing. Treatment of urinary incontinence in men may include behavioural treatments, like bladder training and Kegel exercises, medication, surgery, or a combination of these therapies. Research is ongoing to discover new and better treatments for urinary incontinence in men.
