My recurrent vaginal discharge

I have frequent vaginal discharge which I have been managing for the past few months. Each time I treat the discharge, it will recur within a few days. I am a single lady of 25 years.

Recurrent vaginal discharge usually occurs when a person continues to have symptoms 12 months after their initial treatment. Some of the causes of frequent discharge include multiple sexual partners, sexually active at a young age, regular douching, use of fragranced vaginal washes and cream, presence of  an intrauterine device (IUD), previous history of a sexually transmitted infection (STI), self- medication as well as frequent smoking. The best approach for managing frequent vaginal discharge is to avoid self-medication and see a doctor who may order the following procedures; ask for a medical history, specifically relating to vaginal health, perform a pelvic exam and take a sample of vaginal discharge and send this to a laboratory for analysis.

Treatment will then be recommended based on the history, exam, and test results. The following habits should be practiced to avoid frequent vaginal discharge; avoidance of douching, which can alter the balance between vaginal healthy and harmful bacteria, limiting number of sexual partners, limiting the number of sexual partners, using condoms when engaging in sexual activity, avoiding using soaps and shower gels that contain perfumes, avoiding using vaginal deodorants, avoiding scented tampons or menstrual products, keeping the genital area dry as well as also treating your sexual partner.
